Alternative Designs

Alternative Designs allow you to create multiple visual designs for the same game without changing how the game works. Use them to support Light and Dark Mode, create different color themes, or provide accessibility options such as color-blind-friendly designs.

When Alternative Designs are enabled, your current default design becomes the Light design. You can then add a Dark design and any number of custom alternative designs.

How to Add Alternative Designs

  1. Go to Alternative Designs in Game Settings and enable the setting.

  2. Your current design will automatically become the default Light design.

  3. Add a Dark design or create additional custom designs.

  4. Edit the design name to choose how each option is displayed to players.

  5. Select each design from the design mode bar and customize the graphical elements to create your alternative design.

You can add as many custom designs as you need, but only one design can be set as Light and one as Dark. This allows the game to automatically match the Light or Dark Mode preference of the player's device.

Design Mode Bar

After enabling Alternative Designs, a design mode bar appears on the left side of the settings panel.

The default Light design is always displayed at the top and is represented by a sun icon. A Dark design is represented by a moon icon, while custom designs are represented by a color palette icon and a number.

Select a design from the bar to edit its visual appearance.

When an alternative design is selected, text fields and other non-visual settings are locked. You can only change graphical elements that are supported by Alternative Designs. This ensures that the game's content, settings, and functionality remain consistent across all designs.

Player Design Selector

When Alternative Designs are enabled, a design selector appears in the top-right corner of the Start Game view. Players can use it to switch between the available designs.

You can disable the design selector if you don't want players to manually change the design. When disabled, designs can still be selected automatically or through the game URL.

How a Design Is Selected

When a player opens the game, the design is selected using the following priority:

  1. Design specified in the game URL
  2. Player's system preference for Light or Dark Mode
  3. Player's previously saved selection for that specific game
  4. Default design

For example, if a player's device is using Dark Mode and you have configured a Dark design, the game can automatically display that design. If no matching design or other selection is available, the game uses your default Light design.
Alternative Designs give you flexibility to adapt the visual experience for different players, campaigns, and accessibility needs while keeping the same game content and functionality.
